HR & Safety Manager

Rugged Edge has worked extensively throughout British Columbia, Yukon, Saskatchewan, and NWT. REMCO – Rapid Deployment – is an REH subsidiary and provides Rapid Deployment full-logistics services for emergency response and for Clients requiring remote logistics support.

General Position Summary

REH seeks a bright, dynamic, and tech-savvy HR & Safety Manager to help the REH Group deliver outstanding service and value to its clients and achieve ambitious business objectives. The HR & Safety Manager will report to the COO and be responsible for leading (in collaboration with the executive team) talent acquisition, retention, development, and organization effectiveness and health & safety for the REH Group teams. The HR & Safety Manager will work to maintain a “high performance and safety culture” and position the REH Group to be at the forefront of innovation, and ahead of trends, with regard to work practices (including HSE), conditions, development, and reward.

REH seeks a dynamic Human Resources and Safety (HRS) Manager to deliver outstanding service and value to REH/REMCO Clients and help the REH Group achieve its ambitious objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead HR development and organizational effectiveness including, but not limited to, recruitment, onboarding, training & development, performance management, employee engagement, and retention;
  • Develop REH Group’s approach to counselling and mentorship support to worksite leaders and employees, to address work-related issues, build strong morale and relationships and instigate a “high performance and continuous improvement culture” based on personal development and fulfillment;
  • Lead and resolve complex employee relation issues such as investigations, corrective action, performance improvement, mentorship and development plans, and termination conversations;
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees (including scheduling) and ensuring regulatory compliance, with particular focus on HSE;
  • Assist with periodically benchmarking REH Group competitiveness and advise and support benefits and payroll administration;
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies & procedures (P&Ps), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and strategic plans;
  • Assist with the development of data-driven tools, metrics, and KPIs;
  • Provide regular and accurate HR performance-based reports to the COO;
  • Assist with internal/external representation (verbally and in written form) to government, industry, the media, and especially community leadership;
  • Provide exceptional customer service with a sense of humour!

Position Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources or a related field and 8+ years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Sound training and/or experience in the field of health & safety;
  • CPHR is considered advantageous;
  • Exposure to Construction Labour Relations management considered advantageous;
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively, resolve complex issues and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced-industry;
  • Respect for confidential matters and awareness of all applicable Provincial and Federal legal requirements;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, outstanding interpersonal skills, positive, genuine, trustworthy, and respectful attitude;
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative, question and challenge the status quo while being a genuine team player;
  • Strong knowledge and experience of workplace investigations.

Position Conditions:

Competitive wage (dependent upon experience).

Job Type: Full-time

  • Monday to Friday with some Saturday shifts during busy season;
  • 8-hour day / 40-hour weeks.
